Background and FAQ

How long have you been Speedgolfing?

I started playing in 2014 both for fun and competition. My first major event was back in 2014 and I was able to compete for a $40,000 purse. I finished 15th out of 30 competitors and got some prize money because they paid the top 15 spots :).

How did you get started?

I was playing traditional golf with some friends, and one of the guys I was playing with asked me if I had ever heard of Speedgolf. At the time, I had never heard of it. So when I finished my round later that day I googled it and found the CBS broadcast of the World Championships, and I thought it looked super cool, so I thought I would try it. I was always a fast player and a fast runner, just needed to improve my golf game to compete!

Where did you grow up and where did you go to school?

I grew up in Louisville, Kentucky and attended to the University of Louisville.

Where do you play most of your golf?

Glenoaks Golf & Country Club, but growing up I worked at Iroquois golf course, which is a public course Louisville, and that is where I got my start and played most of my golf growing up. The last 12 years has been at Glenoaks, because I live on the course.

Do you still play “regular” golf?

The only regular golf I play is practice rounds prior to events, the occasional business outing or golf scramble if someone twists my arm enough to get me to play. I honestly don’t enjoy the traditional game anymore, especially now that I know I can play without waiting on the group in front of me to hit every shot.

How has your equipment changed over the years?

I went from carrying 14 clubs with the traditional game, to now playing with 5 clubs. My bag remains consistent for pretty much anytime I play golf whether it’s traditional or Speedgolf, I still only use the 5 clubs, which are the Driver, 5 iron, 9 iron, 54 degree wedge and a putter.

Other than golf gear, what do you use? (shoes, clothes, etc.)

I play in workout clothes, I never wear golf attire (unless required by the course), I play in trail running shoes, no more golf shoes, I always wear rain gloves, no matter the temperature or conditions, in my opinion the rain gloves are key to Speedgolf, especially if you’re playing in the morning dew, the last thing you want to do is lug a towel around and wipe of your grips and/or hands before every shot.
